Description

METAL-FACH SMART MULTI Boiler – for Eco-Pea Coal and Pellets

METAL-FACH SMART MULTI is a central heating boiler designed to burn two types of fuel. Its primary fuel is eco-pea coal, while wood pellets can be used as an additional fuel. The unit combines an automatic fuel feeder, an Ekoenergia II cast-iron burner with an automatic igniter, a PLATINUM controller and a horizontal, shelf-type heat exchanger.

The series includes four nominal heat output variants: 15, 20, 25 and 30 kW. The individual models differ in water capacity, weight and dimensions, among other parameters. This makes it easier to select a suitable variant for the design requirements of the heating system.

The boiler meets Class 5 and Ecodesign requirements. According to the manufacturer's data, the unit achieves energy class A+ when burning pellets and B when burning coal. The manufacturer also indicates the possibility of extending the standard warranty from 2 to 5 years, subject to the conditions specified in the technical documentation.

Two Types of Fuel in One Unit

One of the key features of the SMART MULTI boiler is its ability to burn eco-pea coal and wood pellets. Eco-pea coal is the primary fuel, while pellets are intended as an additional fuel. This allows the user to use two types of fuel in a single unit.

Fuel is transported automatically from the hopper to the burner by means of a screw feeder. Using information from the sensors, the controller determines the fuel demand and adjusts the fuel feed accordingly. This reduces the need for manual fuel dosing during normal boiler operation.

Only fuels approved by the manufacturer and compliant with the unit's technical requirements must be used. The manufacturer prohibits interference with the boiler's construction and the installation of additional grates or components that would enable the combustion of fuels other than those intended for the automatic combustion chamber.

Ekoenergia II Cast-Iron Burner with Automatic Igniter

The SMART MULTI boiler uses an Ekoenergia II cast-iron burner designed for burning eco-pea coal and wood pellets. The burner is equipped with an automatic igniter, which automates the fuel ignition process.

The burner works with an automatic feeder that delivers fuel from the hopper to the combustion zone. The boiler controller manages the operation of the system. This solution reduces the amount of manual work required during everyday operation.

The manufacturer specifies a patented coal ignition system under patent number 002846790-0001. The use of an igniter also enables pellet combustion when the unit is configured accordingly.

Important: when burning pellets, a fire suppression device must be installed to protect the fuel in the hopper against ignition.

Automatic Fuel Feeder

The feeder transports fuel from the hopper directly to the burner. The controller uses information received from the sensors to determine fuel demand and regulate fuel delivery.

Automating this process reduces the need for manual boiler operation and helps maintain continuous combustion. Correct operation of the system depends on using the appropriate fuel, configuring the controller correctly and following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Horizontal, Shelf-Type Heat Exchanger

The SMART MULTI boiler features a horizontal, shelf-type heat exchanger. Its purpose is to recover heat from the flue gases and transfer it to the water inside the boiler's water jacket.

Flue gas turbulators are installed in the convection channels. They reduce the flow velocity of the flue gases and extend the time they remain in contact with the heat exchanger surfaces, supporting heat transfer to the heating system.

The heat exchanger is designed to be cleaned from the front of the boiler. Front access makes maintenance easier and allows deposits generated during operation to be removed.

Ceramic Combustion Chamber

The combustion chamber incorporates ceramic inserts that help maintain a high temperature in the combustion zone. This promotes the afterburning of particles generated during fuel combustion and helps utilise the energy contained in the fuel.

The combustion chamber is one of the components designed to support proper combustion. Actual operating performance also depends on the type and quality of fuel, controller settings and the operating conditions of the heating system.

Boiler Safety Systems

The SMART MULTI is equipped with safety features related to burner operation, access to the inside of the unit and protection of the fuel hopper.

  • Door limit switches: opening a protected door stops the burner and other boiler components until the door is closed again.
  • Fuel hopper lid limit switch: monitors whether the fuel hopper lid is closed and works with the system that stops the unit when the lid is opened.
  • Pressure equalisation system: provides additional protection to help prevent the flame from travelling back towards the fuel hopper.
  • Fire suppression device: protects the fuel in the hopper against ignition. Its use is required when burning pellets.

All safety components must be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Removing, bypassing or modifying them is prohibited.

Choice of Flue Outlet Position

The SMART MULTI design allows the flue outlet to be positioned at the rear or at the top of the boiler. This makes it possible to adapt the flue gas connection to the conditions in the boiler room and the existing chimney installation.

Before installation, verify the dimensions of the selected model, the position of the connections and the requirements for connecting the boiler to the chimney. The final installation method must comply with the technical documentation and the requirements of the installation.

PLATINUM Controller – Boiler Operation Management

The SMART MULTI boiler is controlled by a PLATINUM controller equipped with a colour touchscreen. It allows the user to configure the operating parameters of the unit and control selected components of the heating system.

The controller functions include:

  • control of two heating circuit mixing systems, CH.1 and CH.2, with a room thermostat,
  • control of the central heating pump, domestic hot water pump, circulation pump and additional pump,
  • real-time clock (RTC) with weekly programming,
  • weather-compensated control,
  • FuzzyLogic and PID control algorithms.

The availability of individual functions depends on the system configuration and the additional components installed. When planning to control several heating circuits, check the connection requirements in the controller documentation.

Remote Control via the Internet

The PLATINUM controller is compatible with the optional ecoNET300 internet module. Once installed, it enables monitoring of boiler operating parameters and remote management of the unit via the Internet using the ecoNET24 application.

The ecoNET300 module is an optional accessory. Before purchasing it, check its availability, compatibility with the specific unit configuration and the requirements for enabling remote control.
