Description
METAL-FACH SDG Wood and Coal-Fired Boiler 10–25 kW
The METAL-FACH SDG is a universal central heating boiler designed to burn firewood and hard coal. Firewood is the primary fuel, while hard coal is an additional fuel. The appliance is available in four nominal output versions: 10, 15, 20 and 25 kW.
The boiler features vertical convection flue gas channels, flue gas turbulators and ceramic plates in the combustion chamber. These solutions support the combustion process and heat transfer through the heat exchanger. Boiler operation is facilitated by a draught regulator, a mechanical thermometer, a smoke extraction flap and a grate-shaking lever.
The METAL-FACH SDG boiler meets the requirements of Class 5 and Ecodesign. Its energy efficiency class is A+ when burning firewood and B when burning hard coal. The manufacturer requires the heating system to be equipped with a buffer tank.

Boiler Design and Equipment
Draught Regulator
The draught regulator controls the air supply to the combustion chamber. Depending on the temperature of the heating medium, it adjusts the position of the air inlet flap, helping to maintain appropriate boiler operating conditions.
Mechanical Thermometer
The mechanical bimetallic thermometer with an extended measuring probe allows direct monitoring of the boiler operating temperature.
Primary and Secondary Air Inlets
Two adjustment openings located at the front of the boiler allow the primary and secondary air supplies to be adjusted independently. Correct air supply settings support the combustion process.
Ceramic Plates
The ceramic plates installed in the combustion chamber help maintain a high temperature in the firebox and support the burnout of particles generated during fuel combustion. This solution improves combustion conditions and the utilisation of the energy contained in the fuel.
Heat Exchanger and Vertical Convection Channels
The heat exchanger features vertical convection channels that transfer heat from the flue gases to the boiler water jacket. The design allows the heat exchanger to be cleaned from the front of the appliance.
Flue Outlet
The flue outlet is located at the rear of the boiler and is used to connect the appliance to the chimney system.
Smoke Extraction Flap
The smoke extraction flap allows smoke to be removed from the combustion chamber during boiler operation and servicing activities.
Grate-Shaking Lever
The grate-shaking lever facilitates grate cleaning and the removal of ash residues before the fuel is loaded again.
Flue Gas Turbulators
The turbulators installed in the convection channels change the direction of flue gas flow and extend the contact time between the gases and the heat exchanger surface. This enables more effective heat transfer to the water jacket.

Buffer Tank – Installation Requirements
The METAL-FACH SDG boiler must be installed with a suitably sized buffer tank. The buffer tank stores excess heat generated during fuel combustion so that it can be used later by the heating system.
| Boiler model | Required buffer tank capacity [l] |
|---|---|
| SDG 10 | 330 |
| SDG 15 | 555 |
| SDG 20 | 800 |
| SDG 25 | 1005 |
Note: The SDG boiler may only be installed in a heating system together with a buffer tank. The buffer tank is optional equipment and is not included in the boiler price.
Warranty
The manufacturer offers a standard 2-year warranty, which can be extended to 5 years. The extended warranty is subject to the conditions specified in the technical documentation.
Important Operating Information
The boiler must be installed, commissioned and operated in accordance with the manufacturer's technical and operating documentation. The appliance must not be structurally modified or fitted with additional components that enable the combustion of fuels other than those specified by the manufacturer. Such actions are prohibited and may result in the loss of warranty coverage.
Before purchasing, the boiler output should be matched to the building's heat demand. The requirements for the chimney, hydraulic installation and buffer tank should also be checked.
