Description

PEREKO RETRO DUO – Class 5 Steel Hand-Fired Boiler for Wood and Coal

PEREKO RETRO DUO is a modern hand-fired boiler designed for burning firewood and hard coal. Its construction combines the simplicity and reliability of classic hand-fired boilers with solutions that make it possible to achieve high thermal efficiency and reduce pollutant emissions.

The boiler has been designed for heating single-family houses, garages, workshops, utility buildings and other facilities equipped with a water-based central heating system. The available output variants make it possible to select a unit suitable for both smaller and significantly larger areas.

RETRO DUO is a solution for users who value fuel flexibility, a simple design without extensive electronics and the high durability of a heat exchanger made of specialist P265GH boiler steel.

Two Types of Fuel – Wood or Coal

One of the most important advantages of the PEREKO RETRO DUO boiler is the possibility of using two popular types of fuel: firewood logs and hard coal. This makes it possible to adapt the heating method to the current availability and price of fuel.

The large combustion chamber makes fuel loading easier, while the properly designed primary and secondary air supply system enables the combustion process to take place under suitable conditions.

Class 5 Boiler and High Thermal Efficiency

RETRO DUO has been designed as an efficient hand-fired boiler meeting the requirements of Class 5. The multi-pass heat exchanger design makes it possible to effectively recover energy from the flue gases and transfer it to the central heating system.

Depending on the version and the fuel used, the thermal efficiency of the boiler reaches approximately 89.5–90.9%. This means very effective use of the energy contained in the fuel and reduced heat losses discharged together with the flue gases through the chimney.

Three-Pass Heat Exchanger Design

The boiler uses a carefully designed flue gas flow system featuring vertical and horizontal flue gas return paths as well as a three-pass combustion chamber design. The extended flue gas path through the heat exchanger increases the contact surface between the hot gases and the water jacket, making it possible to recover thermal energy effectively.

In addition, the construction features flue gas turbulators, which support heat exchange between the flue gases and the water contained in the boiler jacket.

Solid P265GH Steel Heat Exchanger

The boiler's water body is made of specialist P265GH steel compliant with PN-EN 10028, intended for the manufacture of pressure equipment operating at elevated temperatures.

The heat exchanger plate on the flame side has a thickness of 5 mm, while the outer part of the water jacket is made of 3 mm thick steel plate. The heat exchanger components are welded on both sides, and the body structure has additionally been reinforced with supports.

This construction provides high resistance to thermal and mechanical loads occurring during many years of operation of the heating system.

Ceramic Combustion Chamber

The combustion chamber is equipped with a ceramic lining. The ceramic material helps maintain a sufficiently high temperature in the combustion zone, supporting the effective afterburning of gases generated during fuel combustion.

This solution contributes to better utilisation of the energy contained in wood or coal and helps reduce the amount of incomplete combustion products.

Movable Grate – More Convenient Cleaning

RETRO DUO is equipped with a steel movable grate operated by means of an external pedal. This makes it easy to move the grate and shake accumulated ash into the lower part of the boiler.

This solution reduces the need for manual cleaning of the combustion chamber and makes daily operation of the unit easier.

Well-Designed Door and Cleaning Access System

The boiler has been designed so that both operation and periodic cleaning of the heat exchanger are as convenient as possible.

  • Fuel loading door – enables convenient loading of wood or coal into the combustion chamber.
  • Combustion chamber door – provides access to the combustion zone.
  • Lower door – enables ignition and removal of accumulated ash.
  • Upper door – provides access to the heat exchanger channels when removing soot and combustion residues.
  • Side cleaning openings – enable cleaning of the vertical section of the heat exchanger.
  • Flue outlet cleaning opening – helps maintain unobstructed flue gas discharge channels.

Air Supply and Flue Gas Flow Control

The boiler is equipped with solutions that enable adjustment of combustion conditions, including a primary air flap, combustion chamber air damper, secondary air damper and flue outlet damper.

Proper adjustment makes it possible to adapt the amount of air and chimney draught to the current operating conditions and the fuel being used.

Effective Thermal Insulation of the Casing

The water body is enclosed by insulation panels that reduce heat losses to the boiler room. The panels are made of aesthetically finished sheet metal protected with durable powder coating offering high corrosion resistance.

On the inside, mineral wool insulation is used, allowing a greater proportion of the generated energy to be transferred to the central heating system.

Operation with a Buffer Tank

RETRO DUO requires operation in a heating system equipped with a thermal storage tank – a heat buffer. The buffer stores the energy generated during boiler operation and allows it to be used later by the heating system.

The minimum required buffer tank capacity is:

  • 800 litres for RETRO DUO 14–16 kW,
  • 1000 litres for RETRO DUO 21–22 kW.

Operation with a properly sized buffer makes it possible to operate the boiler under favourable conditions and reduces the need to frequently restrict the combustion process.

Two Output Versions

PEREKO RETRO DUO is available in two variants, allowing the unit's output to be matched to the size of the heated building:
