The deflector is installed in the boiler with an auger feeder. It is suspended above the firebox.
The deflector is a wearing component of the boiler and, like the grate in conventional boilers, it wears out, so it needs to be replaced after some time. The service life of the deflector is significantly shortened when the air supply from the fan is too large and too intense. If the deflector becomes damaged after a short period of operation, this is not a boiler defect but an obvious consequence of injecting an excessive amount of air into the boiler. The aggressive heat from the retort has caused damage to the deflector. In such a situation, the boiler does not work as a heating device, but as a blacksmith's forge where steel melts and the deflector can burn through.
